I am a Denver area cartoonist, and began drawing when I was old enough to hold a crayon without also eating it. This early self-imposed dietary restriction led to work as a cartoonist for some school newspapers, (the pre-school newspaper was the back of a spare Pampers.) About 15 years later, at the University of Illinois student newspaper, I held the same editor position earlier held by Hugh Hefner. (The only other thing we share in common is that I also like to work in a bathrobe occasionally.)
After college, I was a political cartoonist in the Midwest...and then worked under contract for King Features and Tribune Media, creating some now obscure comic strips. My work has been
published in over 100 magazines and newspapers, (including Time
Magazine, Forbes and the Wall Street Journal). I have illustrated more than 30 books, (ranging from business books to children's books.) Last year, my cartoons won two national advertising awards.
At times I am still mildly tempted to eat/suck on my drawing utensils...but now that I use a digital drawing tablet, there is a 120 volt "incentive" not to do so. (Technology has come a long way.)
Fortune 100 firms, book publishers and greeting card companies are among my repeat customers...as well as start-up companies and smaller businesses. 98% of my clients are outside of my home state of Colorado...so I can create something for you, no matter where you are.
Clients include: General Motors, McDonald's, Boeing Aviation, Merck Pharmaceuticals, Time Warner, Google, Northwestern Mutual, Northrup Grumman, The Starz Network, Granite Corp., Better Business
Bureau (national offices), Home Depot and The American Association of Architects. I have illustrated
books for several publishers, including Penguin Books, Pearson Publishing Inc. and Wiley Press.
The Process:
Simply email or call me to describe what you have in mind -- and I'll give you a cost and time estimate. (If you'd like to discuss illustrating a book, you can
email or fax a sample chapter of your manuscript for me to see before
we chat about it.)
I'll begin your project by emailing you sketches. After you approve a sketch, (it may require a revision to get there), I'll create your finished cartoon or illustration. You'll receive high quality digital files, optimized for print or website use, in any format that you, your publisher, printer or webmaster require.
If you have a tight deadline, don't hesitate to call me...quick turnaround is a specialty.
